I’ve eaten at this food court in Compass Point more times than I can count. From the claypot rice to the Korean stall and ban mian favourites, I’ve tried most of the well-known options. So today, when I was craving something soupy, I thought I’d give Hao Jia Ban Mian a shot. Big mistake. The woman taking orders was rude and couldn’t be bothered. She rushed through her words when asking if I wanted to top up S$2.50 for some promotional add-on, speaking so quickly it was impossible to catch. I asked her to repeat, and instead of explaining, she just waved it off and muttered “never mind” in a tone that made it clear she had no interest in being helpful. Only after I spotted the small signage did I realise what she was actually trying to say. A bit late by then. I ordered the spinach tomato mee suan. It came looking like a rushed mess, everything just dumped into the bowl without thought. The taste? Confused at best. Spinach and tomato can work, but not like this. There was no balance, no care in the preparation, just a sloppy, watery concoction. Food gets a grudging 2/5. Service is a solid 0/5. I don’t expect five-star treatment at a food court, but basic courtesy should not be too much to ask. Definitely won’t be back.
