Jian Bo Shui Kueh at Compass One B1 level brings nearly 70 years of traditional hawker heritage to the Sengkang community, continuing a legacy that began in 1958 when an elderly man peddled steamed rice cakes from a humble pushcart and has since evolved into a successful 16-outlet corporation helmed by third-generation owner Eric Ang. This Michelin Bib Gourmand 2021 recognized establishment offers authentic chwee kueh (steamed rice cakes) and traditional snacks in a convenient standalone mall kiosk, preserving the art of traditional Singapore street food for modern convenience.
The menu specializes in their legendary chwee kueh - incredibly soft and smooth steamed rice cakes topped with fragrant chye poh (preserved radish) and signature dried prawn chili that creates the perfect combination of textures and flavors. Beyond their famous signature dish, the stall has expanded to include nyonya dumplings, png kueh, steamed buns, chee cheong fun, bak changs, and various local snacks, all maintaining the robust and tasty chye poh quality that has made Jian Bo one of Singapore's most respected traditional food establishments.
With convenient takeaway packaging featuring separate compartments for chye poh and chili, plus online ordering for delivery and self-collection through major food platforms, Jian Bo Shui Kueh Compass One provides accessible traditional flavors with pricing starting from .50 for five pieces. The stall's successful blend of hawker heritage with modern mall convenience, backed by Michelin recognition and decades of customer loyalty, makes it the essential destination for both nostalgic locals and curious visitors seeking authentic Singapore comfort food in the heart of the island's largest suburban community.
Honest review about the food quality. It’s really really not nice. I bought chwee kueh, Siew mai, png kueh and soon kueh just to try a bit of everything. I did not like the texture of the chwee kueh. Felt like factory produced.
Siew mai was so so and the soon kueh and png kueh had thick and hard skin. Overall, not good at all and the price is atrocious. Too expensive!!!!

This extremely unpleasant experience happened in Sengkang Compassvale Branch on Sunday 20 October 2024. This lady, as attached arrowed in green, was very sarcastic when I approached another counter staff to find out roughly what time I can get a chance to purchase warmer carrot cakes because they really taste nicer.
This lady, who was not even serving me at that moment suddenly spoke in a very sarcastic exact tone from behind that I can stand at the shop to wait until all are sold out to get the new ones, as though someone who speaks in a wet fish market... This is certainly not a joke to make...
My question is, is that the way how customers should be served in shopping malls? Customers are already disappointed not being able to get what he or she wants, and you are saying this in a sarcastic tone... My impression of Jian Bo has been pleasant till now for me to patron and other outlets so many times. However, I seriously feel that this kind of ugly customer service attitude will tarnish the company's image.
When highlighted to the management Ms. Peggy Lee for a small compensation for customer service recovery, the exact words from her in her reply email was, the staff was already given a warning (which I am not even sure whether it is true or not) and also a reply stating that "We seek your understanding and are not able to offer any compensation as the product you have purchased (1 piece of carrot cake) is in good quality."
My first question is, how does she even know that it is in good quality? Secondly, are you sure that ONLY 1 piece of carrot cake was purchased on that day. Lastly, being a loyal customer who often patron this store, are they trying to imply that they cannot afford even a small compensation to salvage their company's name?
I was utterly disappointed by Ms. Peggy's reply. SHAME ON YOU! Good luck to those who wishes to patron and continue to patron this stall. I had also promised myself never ever to return to this stall again.

Asked aunty if can put all the sauces for the chee cheong fun b4 I pay. If can then buy. She said ok but while preparing kept grumbling cannot. Can only put one type. She said boss won't give. Then in the 1st place don't sell me. Not the 1st time their staffs very naggy. I told her if cannot I Won't buy. The food is dry n tasteless. Don't sell if you are unable to provide.

Prices been increasing and food portion getting smaller. Dishonest staff overcharging food items not based on price listed on tags. Wanted to buy a kueh and told them can get me the SLIGHTLY thicker piece, they ignored the request, took the smaller piece and walked away expecting me to pay. which again I asked before paying, and they say that piece they will charge more. Does the bosses know they are doing this?? Everyone is facing this whole inflation together, but what for need to say until like that?

After selecting my items and making payment, instead of handing me my purchase, the cashier just left them next to the cash register and watched me. How can I support a brand that is unaware of such behavior?

Had unpleasant experience when buying from the aunty just now (about 1330 on 15/7/2025). Pls educate your staff to speak louder and give customer time to respond.

Bought a butterfly fritter for breakfast and it TASTE HORRIBLE. The fritter was so hard and thin, just look at the picture, it even breaks into 2 when I hold it.
The guy who took my order is very bad too. There's a few freshly fried butterfly fritter in the front but he choose to pick this old and hard one for me. Never visit this stall again. Even for chwee kueh I will never support them too.

An update to the review after a year or 2:
The prices are simply extortionate, 1.50 for you tiao and the shui kueh is 5.60 for 8, EXCLUDING 30cent for the box which is a must to contain them (how else can we take the shui kueh?).
My main complain here is on the A1 box to contain the shui kueh, I believe it is ridiculous that when the stall only serve take away and you charge people for the packaging while there is no where on the signboard or menu indicating the box costs money.
I shall experiment to bring my container next time and very likely they will charge me ONE dollar (it is written at the cash register) for asking them to put a little more cai Poh into my container since the staff will just put a meagre portion of it into my container.
Conclusion : I will BOYCOTT all Jian No related brands, it is beyond ridiculous for these prices and on the business practices.
Previous review which still stands true.
Just to add to the low reviews here, I think the franchiser need to take note of this outlet:
poor service in the form of instructions not followed:
- requested for no chilli but it was added,
- more Cai po but 10 out of 10 times the Cai po is insufficient for 10 kueh,
- the staff seems uninterested or simply rude on replying, this is not always the case but frequent enough to observe this behaviour
On the core product which is the shui kueh, people like the kueh to have a good spread of Cai po to go along with it. However each time we order 10 kueh and requested for more Cai po (cos it was always insufficient to even thinly spread on each of the 10 kueh), this request is always (10 out of 10 times) intentionally ignore!
This lead me to go around the "system" to only order 8 instead of 10. This is because with 8 kueh the Cai po is more manageable and will leave us happier as a consumer.
The picture below shows that I order 10 keuh and scrimping on the Cai po for the 7 kueh I eaten, there is only Cai po just enough for 1 more kueh..

I was expecting some standard and I did not check the reviews before hand.
Food is overly priced.
Chee kuey breaks into half.
Siew mai falls apart splitting the
Nasi lemak only 1 small fish and ikan bilis
If you have $5, go donate to charity better than buy something here.

Ordered chicken porridge. But reach home is like plain porridge. The so call chicken is fine and little till can't locate in the porridge. Is $3 that expensive to give chicken pieces?
Also, be careful they may over charged and said punch wrongly.
I deserve a refund.
Just feels cheated, I went back to the store today (23/6) and requested the China lady to show me the chicken. Jian Bo, please change your 鸡肉粥to鸡丝丝粥. Don't mislead consumers.

Used to patronise this stall because the chwee kway is not bad and sk has limited option for good chwee kuay, but one really bad experience is what it took for me to stop going back.
So why? I bought a pack of ang ku Kueh from them in the morning and as soon as I was home, my wife ate one and said is chao sng ( spoiled). I immediately went back to the mall with the ang ku Kueh to provide feedback but they simply brushed me off saying that what sold is not refundable/exchangeable and attitude of the staff is quite bad - it is important to note that this was bought first thing in the morning and not late evening so I expect it to be fresh.
Perhaps I am just unlucky but from then on, I never patronise jian bo anymore despite with the understanding that this might be just an issue with one of their branch/franchise.
It is the attitude that put me off, not the food!

Jian Bo Shui Kueh: A Bib Gourmand Hawker Gem Since 1968
Jian Bo Shui Kueh is a true icon in Singapore’s hawker scene, and I visited their outlet at Kopi Tiam Corner @ Serangoon. Famous for their delicious Shui Kueh, this stall has been awarded the Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide Singapore for many years—a testament to their quality and taste.
Their spread of kuih looks so tempting that one visit isn’t enough to try everything! The Shui Kueh itself is exceptional, with flavors that reflect their legacy of excellence, passed down through generations since 1968.
If you’re looking to savor authentic hawker delights, Jian Bo Shui Kueh is a must-visit. Highly recommended for food lovers and Michelin fans alike!

Food is great! Very flavorful preserved radish. And the rice cake is soft. One of my childhood breakfast go-to choice.

I Was impressed by a senior service lady in this outlet!
As I was walking around looking for a tmr breakfast, that I can keep and heat up easily tmr morning. I found this outlet have this ' bento set! ( including glutenous rice, cho kuen, zhu cheong fan and yam cake). After I ordered, I told the lady that I need to keep for tmr breakfast 😋. Then she nicely replied that the sauce was will added on top of all the food. Can't separate. I was then say ok. Then have it without in a disappointed tone.
Then to my surprise 😮, the lady came back with a this (picture). It was separated nicely! And she even apologise that she have to squeeze the yam cake and zhu cheong fan in one portion.
Wow... truly nowadays we really hard to find this excellent service in F&B liao.
I would love to compliment this lady! Well done!
And thank you 😊 🙏
